Katsumi Sunamori (1951-2009) is a photographer born on the Okinawa main island and raised on Amami Oshima Island. He moved to Osaka at age 15, and after working as a professional boxer, entered Osaka Photography College in 74, graduated in '75, and began working as a photographer. Mainly active in weekly photo magazines, he received the 15th Domon Ken Award and the 46th Japan Photographic Association Rookie Award for the photo book “Drifting Island and Marumaru Water” (96, published by Creo) on the subject of a trip to visit his father who was a member of the Okinawan US military and was separated from the Philippines. This exhibition, which is the first in Okinawa, will exhibit photographs of Okinawa (taken in 1989) from the exhibition held at the Tomaruki Art Museum in 2020. Also, this exhibition aims to propose new values to the world through excellent films from Okinawa, Taiwan, and surrounding islands, where island culture remains strong, and will be held as an event related to the screening project “Cinema at Sea - Special Screening Homecoming” hosted by the NPO corporation Cinema at Sea.

Shogen (actor)
In 2005, she debuted in the film “Hub and Fist”, which depicts Okinawa after the war. Based in Japan, she has appeared in many domestic and international productions. The film “Prosthetic Boxer GENSAN PUNCH,” which starred and produced in 2021, won the Kim Ji Suk Award at Busan International Film. Recent appearances include “Kaze no Magim,” “Treasure Island,” and “Army on a Tree.” The starring film “LONE SAMURAI” will soon be released. He also serves as an ambassador for “Cinema at Sea - Okinawa Pacific Rim International Film Festival.”
Sunamori Kazura (art archivist)
Since 2009, he has managed the works of photographer Katsumi Sunamori, re-edited historical research and archives that have been made invisible starting from investigation, and presented through exhibition production, writing, photographs, etc. “Okinawa One Shout” (Ronsosha) was republished in 2025.
