In addition to “island,” “Shima” indicates a “specific region” as if “washima” were used in Okinawa to indicate a hometown. “Shima no Uta” is a “traditional song of people who share regional history and culture” and “a song that lives powerfully in the community.”
It consists of 2 parts: the talk corner “World Island Song,” where broadcaster Peter Barakan talks while introducing music from islands around the world, and a mini concert by SATO Anna (song) and Yuji Katsui (violin). The talk is in English (with a Japanese earphone guide).
A performance linked to the event of the same name to be held at the National Theatre Okinawa on 1/24.
