Profile

Born in Amami Oshima Island in 1979. I learned Amami shimauta (local music) from my grandfather when I was 3 years old, and won many awards at the Amami Shima Song Contest and the Kagoshima Folk Song Contest. He began his musical career in Tokyo at age 18, and made his major debut with the album “Koishi Koishiya” in 2005. In addition to appearing on numerous shows produced by Kansai Yamamoto, he has also performed at many domestic and international events. He is also an official vocalist for the world-famous French entertainment group “Cirque du Soleil.” In 2013, in addition to appearing as Fantaine in the musical “Les Miserables,” she also participated in the unit “Kurofune,” which advocates a fusion of jazz and traditional performing arts.

Born in 1979 in Amami Oshima, Ms. Sato was born the shima-uta of Amami by her beginning at the very young age of three. She won awards and recognition in Amami's Shima-uta contests and at bigger, surprised in Kagoshima. She appeared at the Love the Earth Expo opening event for the Aichi Expo in March 2005, which was presented by fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, where she garnered much acclaim. By 2009, she has released a total of five albums and a DVD. Her performances in 2010 included the Shanghai Expo concert in May, and in June, at the Armstrong Theater in LA. In July 2011, she performed live at the 14th World Gymnaestrada in Lausanne, and in October she was a guest performer at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Tokyo. She is also one of the official vocalists for Cirque du Soleil.
