Synopsis
1972. Okinawa was about to return to Japan. Sugiura Takashi, who has visited his former lover Megumi Ishimine, communicates with Megumi's grandfather (Seiji) and parents, and is heartbroken by the situation Okinawa has been placed in. Sugiura, who felt uneasy about himself as a Yamatonchu who can't do anything, says that the suffering in Okinawa is “catabui (= downpour)” for people on the mainland, shares this suffering someday, and aspires to become a politician someday to take back Seiji's land, which was taken by America and used as a base.
Time passed, 1995. Sugiura, who came to Okinawa in the wake of Seiji's death, violated the Public Office Election Law as a political secretary and was unemployed. Sugiura, who saw her being unable to do anything even after 23 years, the situation in Okinawa that had not changed, and Okinawa became one in the wake of the girl assault incident, left Okinawa believing that the day would change Okinawa and Japan would come this time.
It's been 30 years since then. Okinawa in 2025. Sugiura, who is now 75 years old, visits Okinawa. The final part of a story spanning over 50 years from 1972.
