The era changed from Edo to Meiji, and people followed the path of modernization, and various reforms were carried out under the slogan “Fukoku Strong Soldier.” People's lives have changed drastically due to changes in “rules” such as the school education system, military conscription, and land tax reform. Okinawa also changed from the Ryukyu Kingdom to the Ryukyu Domain and Okinawa Prefecture. In this exhibition, we will focus on the lives of people in Nago and Yanbaru who are at the mercy of changes in laws and school education systems.
●Related exhibition “Daily necessities immediately after the end of the war”
7/25 (Friday) to 10/12 (Sun)
Amid the shortage of supplies immediately after the end of the war, people devised various ideas for what they could get and reuse them as daily necessities. They made Sanshin (Three-string guitar) and children's dresses from parachute fabric, remade clothes from military uniforms, and remade shell shells into incense burners, ashtrays, etc. Materials where you can feel the dedication and strength of people who work hard no matter what kind of situation they are placed in will be exhibited.
