The story of Nakayama Kiku, a former Hakubai student team who worked as a storyteller for the Battle of Okinawa, was set on stage. It depicts the trajectory of her heart until she, who had a sense of guilt for having survived and kept her mouth shut for 50 years after the war, decided to talk about the war.

What she kept on conveying was, “Peace will not come if you just think; you will act.” 80 years after the war, TEAM SPOT JUMBLE faced “war and peace” through theater, and presented a new work.

●Message from TEAM SPOT JUMBLE and actor Shinichi Tsunami
This year, Japan and Okinawa are celebrating 80 years since the war. Meanwhile, wars are repeated around the world, and news that is far from peace jumps into our eyes every day.
Nakayama Kiku, who is the main character of this stage, is my aunt. My aunt didn't talk much about her war experiences to her family during her lifetime, and my nephew, who was out of touch with peace, had an ear covered in scary stories. What changed dramatically is that 10 years ago, we walked in the footsteps of my aunt just before the end of the war on a program called “Kinkuru” on NHK Okinawa. The stories that my aunt experienced in an orderly manner in Yaese's operating chamber, the field road where she probably ran away, the land of Itoman where she lost many friends, and the mountain road where she decided to commit suicide were so shocking that it was too shocking to be ashamed of who I am up until now.
What I can't forget in my aunt's words is the phrase “I'm sorry for surviving” to friends and their bereaved families who lost their lives no matter how many years have passed. It was so sad and painful that I almost burst into tears. This is because my aunt survived, so after the war, my father, who was weak, also existed, and I was born too...
It's impossible to “convey my aunt's thoughts” on this stage, and I don't think it's possible. However, I think I will move forward with the words “Peace doesn't come just by thinking,” which I often said during my lifetime. My aunt, who was strict yet kind, and if all my schoolmates smiled from heaven... I would be happy.
