“INDEPENDENT,” the strongest one-person play festival from Osaka, first landed at the Okinawa performance of the Japan Tour held in the summer of 2011, and after pre-planning in 2014, it started being held regularly in 2015. This year, as an Okinawa regional edition, 4 groups of Okinawan teams and 5 groups of invited works will perform a passionate one-person play.

[a] “Immoral Moralist”
Cast: Deakiyama Hitomi (Theatre Company OZE)

In Showa 7, Renko Kushima from Okinawa published the novel “A Certain Ryukyu Man's Immorality” in the women's magazine “Onna Koron,” and made her debut as a female writer. The novel quickly became a hot topic, but it was completely different from what Renko had imagined. It was denounced by the same Okinawans, and serialization of the novel was discontinued. Dismayed by the disturbance, Unko picked up her brush to write an explanation at the end.

[b] “From tomorrow”

Participate again this year! The theater company Theater TEN Company, which continues multiple activities such as contemporary theater, Uchina plays, theater workshops, and civic musical productions, will participate in the NHA again this year. The performer is Ryukyu dancer and actor Yasutsugu Masami. Directed by Tahara Masayuki, who has created many stages in Okinawa Prefecture. The script is written by Chibana, who participated in and performed at the NHA last year and the year before last.

[c] “Gemini and the Balance”

Tomoko, who was told that her cancer had returned, suddenly recalls her trip to Okinawa 15 years ago before undergoing surgery with a 50% success rate. Yuto is a young man whose individuality overlaps and is reunited many times. Amidst mysterious events, I come into contact with his secrets, and eventually learn the meaning of the “important things” he said. It was an easy phrase showing how to accept life and how to move forward. And now, while being carried to the operating room, she smiles softly. “Well, why don't you go on the way to the operating room as if it were a little trip!”

[d] “Let me hear a quiet smell”

It is said that some people can see numbers colored. For example, 3 is “yellow” and 7 is “purple.” Some people say they can sense shape in taste. It is said that the sweetness of chocolate is a “heavy sphere.” It seems to be called “empathy.” Also, it seems that the characters in this story can hear the sound along with the smell. The scent of flowers. The smell of freshly baked bread. The tatami mat at grandma's house. Sweaty Smells Like Aging. Fabric softener that is too tight. What kind of sounds can we hear in this world full of smell?

Hansi High School, a public star with only 9 members, will advance to the Koshien semifinals due to Ace Samejima's activities. Yamada, number 9, was so nervous that he never swung his bat even once at Koshien... It was a half-body high school where they advanced to the final even though it was difficult due to Samejima's reversal home run, but an unexpected event happened to Gyoshima and Yamada... The passionate baseball one-man play that won the 2024 Osaka Trial has landed in Okinawa.

What is “INDEPENDENT”?
The “Strongest One-Person Play Festival = INDEPENDENT” has been held every year since 2001, based at the Osaka Independent Theater, which is attracting attention from all over the country for conceptual theater production and aggressive activities. This project, where units of actors and directors compete in solo acts in various styles and methods of expression, has so far sent out over 450 works to the world nationwide. This festival, which has attracted many audiences and creators, held its first nationwide tour in the summer of 2011. Utilizing that network, a project centered on local actors and creators began in 2012. Currently, regional editions continue to be held in Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Okinawa. Last year, they participated in overseas festivals and finally achieved overseas expansion, and the history and expression of one-person plays continues to be updated at further acceleration.
