Contents

In addition to introducing the techniques and beauty that Miyako textiles have nurtured through Miyako jofu from various eras, and the history and culture behind them, works by the Ryukyu Indigo Institute, which expands the possibilities of indigo, which is essential for Okinawan dyeing and weaving, and presents unconventional works and products are exhibited. Not limited to joufu, this is an exhibition where you can consider how handicrafts that have been handed down by exhibiting new Miyako maori and art pieces derived from tradition in parallel have led to today, and explore developments as “new expressions.”

During the exhibition, in addition to the “indigo dyeing workshop” where you can experience part of the production process, a talk event “Community Talk” will also be held by people involved in weaving on the island. This is a valuable opportunity to hear firsthand the viewpoints of contemporary artists who have spun traditions and the feelings behind each technique. You can touch the world that each weave and feel the depth of handiwork.
