Graves in Okinawa are in trouble right now. The number of applications for reburial permits (grave fouling) in the prefecture reached 4800 in one year in 2023. It has doubled in the 2 years from 2021. What is even more worrying is the “unrelated graves” that is progressing behind the increase in the number of reburial cases. A growing number of private cemeteries are stealing Okinawa's future.
