Immigrants from Okinawa, who began in the Meiji period, left for various countries, starting with Hawaii, but life there was very difficult. The money earned by overcoming various hardships was also used for remittance to families remaining in the hometown and donations to unevenness, and it is said that it was an important financial resource supporting the Okinawa Prefecture economy at the time.
In this exhibition, while tracing the history of immigrants, we will introduce records of donations from immigrant people remaining in various parts of the city and “things” that convey the memories of immigrants to the present.
