“When the Theater Ends” is a documentary film that follows Ishikawa Masao, a photographer representing Okinawa, shooting at Okinawa's oldest wooden movie theater, the Shuri Theater. The Shuri Gekijo (Movie Theater) was built in 1950, and although it was initially bustling with Okinawan play and movie screenings, it fell into management difficulties after the 1970s and was converted to an adult movie theater. The third director protected the theater by himself, but he passed away suddenly in 2022/4 and it was closed, and it was dismantled at the end of 2023 due to aging.

MAKIYA Tsutomu, who produced, directed, filmed, and edited this film, wanted to keep a subjective record of the atmosphere of this theater, and proposed production of the work at the theater before dismantling to Ishikawa. In addition to shooting at the theater with her iPhone, she also listened to stories from people who knew the theater and the director in the past, and superimposed the way of life of two people who never met during their lifetime. The passion of a photographer who pushes his illness and takes on the challenge of shooting, and the presence of a theater where the director's thoughts ooze everywhere are conveyed.

As a co-screening film, “Yaeyama 8mm Film x G.Yoko+ Kishaba Hero,” which is an excerpt from the recorded video of the Yui Road Theater 1st anniversary event “Yui Road Theater Summer Festival” held in 2019, was specially screened.

During the period, the “Southwest Footen Festival ~ Yaeyama/Shitamachi Direct Flights ~” where creators of downtown Tokyo gather will be held simultaneously (11:00 to 17:00, admission is free).
