“Laughter, Tears, and the Struggle Chronicles of the Dojo Sukui landlady who revived the cliff edge ryokan”
Lecturer: Obata Mika (Saginoyu Onsen Ryokan “Chikuyo)” 3rd landlady Dojo Sukui landlady (stock), representative director of Momoichi)
“Chikuha” is a long-established ryokan that has been around for 60 years in Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture. Despite being in a good location just a 30-second walk from a famous museum, the number of customers did not increase, and the debt was 40 million yen. From there, an open-air bath was installed and the ryokan was renovated to a “modern Japanese” style in order to rebuild the ryokan. The debt was reduced to 100 million yen. Although reconstruction was carried out by piling up debts, there were not as many results as expected, and it was a big battle between the big landlady and the young landlady. However, it was transformed into a popular ryokan due to the young landlady's abandonment performance. An abandoned performance is “Dojo Sukui,” which is demonstrated by the young landlady herself. It has now been reborn as the most popular ryokan in the prefecture, which is used by many foreign guests. This time, I will be asked to talk starkly about the trajectory of management reconstruction struggles with laughter and tears.
