In February 2021, a coup d'état by the national military was carried out in Myanmar due to social trends progressing towards democratization. Citizens developed large-scale movements advocating democratization, starting with the Disobedience Movement (CDM), but violence and oppression by the national army were repeated. Even now, more than 3 years have passed since the coup d'état, they are still being forced into chaos and hardship, with resistance and confrontation in forms including armed struggle, and many people being driven out of the country. Under such circumstances, various visual expressions surrounding the reality of Myanmar have been created and disseminated, such as broadcast videos of citizens facing a crisis, video works by journalists and film directors who have been forced to evacuate Myanmar, and abstract video works where they hide their whereabouts while in Myanmar and are anonymous. In this video workshop, we will appreciate visual expressions after the coup and explore ways for Okinawa and Myanmar to overcome the political and social difficulties of the crisis era through discussions.
