Peace study field work around Shuri Castle, about 3 kilometers (with ups and downs). Learn about buried battleship bunkers such as various headquarters bunkers (32nd Army headquarters bunker, 5th artillery headquarters bunker, 62nd division headquarters bunker) and student battalion bunkers (icchu bunker, lukan bunker) built by the Japanese army around Shuri Castle during the war.
The collapse of the Shuri Front was imminent in late May 1945, and in the 32nd Army headquarters bunker, 3 plans such as the Shuri Fukaku Plan, the Chinen Peninsula Retreat Plan, and the Kiyatake Peninsula Withdrawal Plan were discussed, and Commander Ushijima decided to retreat to the Kiyatake Peninsula. From 5/25, the 32nd Army carried out a retreat operation (protracted battle) to the south. The Shimajiri area, where the withdrawal order was issued, was overflowing with many evacuees from the south-central part of the main island. Then they got involved in a clean-up battle by the pursuing US military.
