●Film “Sugime” screening
The ruins of the Ryukyu Islands are about 30,000 years old. It tells the story of how humans in the Paleolithic Age crossed the ocean and reached the Ryukyu Islands. The voyage they experienced had to cross Kuroshio, which is the largest ocean current in the world, and it must have been a very difficult voyage. How did they cross the ocean? A project was carried out to research their navigation techniques and conduct experimental voyages in order to get close to their ancestors who cut open up undeveloped land. The film “Sugime” is a feature-length documentary documenting that grand project that took place over 6 years. At this screening, project leader Yosuke Kaifu will send a special comment after the screening.

●Museum Curator Lecture “Symposium: The 'New' Era of Minato River People”
The Minatogawa people represent Paleolithic humans who first crossed the ocean and came to the Ryukyu Islands. Since it was discovered more than half a century ago, it has long been a fossil human representing this period, but in addition to the discovery of new materials on fossil humans, various matters surrounding the Minatogawa people have been elucidated through research over the past 10 years. At this symposium, researchers who create such latest research results will take the stage and give lectures on the “new” era of Minatogawa people.
