●Furuya Chikako Profile
Born in Tokyo Metropolitan Prefecture, lives in Okinawa. Diver and small first-class ship pilot. After engaging in dive fishing as a sailor himself, he became a photographer and photographed the traditional fishing industry of amazing fishermen. Their way of life is documented on TV programs such as TBS “Passion Continent,” NHK “Grand View,” TV Tokyo “Solomon Style,” and BS TV “Dream Dining Table.”
From 2003, I began shooting divas from all over the country, starting with Ama from the Shima Peninsula, and in 2013, I began hands-on coverage of traditional Okinawan karate (kobudo). In 2018, she won the 70th Okinawa Prefectural Sports Festival karate competition (middle-aged women's rhinoceros section). Focusing on the rational use of colors by diving fishermen that are in harmony with nature, they are taking on the challenge of expressing the harmony between people and nature through photographs.
