Every thing that has been accepted through the ages is full of charm, and has the power to talk about something. In Ryukyu lacquerware, from the Kingdom period to the present day, works which changed along with the change of generation were created. This season's permanent exhibition features the history of Ryukyu lacquerware and a themed exhibition entitled “Homage Ryukyu Lacquerware.” “Hommage” (homage) is French for respect, respect, and praise. I will introduce Ryukyu lacquerware from this point of view. Also, as a first experiment, an artist's gaze was incorporated. Lacquer artist Satoshi Someya explores the world of Ryukyu lacquerware traced (traced and copied), and video artist Kenji Oyama approaches with images re-created (reconstructed/recreated) from his work.
