Lecture by Professor Svante Paevo of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST), who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2022.
Dr. Paevo received the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his “discoveries relating to the genome of extinct hominids and human evolution.” It achieved high results in revolutionary research on human evolution, such as clarifying what kind of effects they had on human genes through genomic research on Neanderthals and Denisovans, and contributed to the establishment of a new field of study “palaeogenetics,” which studies ancient DNA.
In this lecture, I will introduce Dr. Paevo's relentless exploration into the mystery of “where did we come from,” who was passionate about genomic research on the ancestors of humans, Neanderthals and Denisovans, who became extinct about 40,000 years ago. Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation included.
