An event related to the special exhibition “People Crossing the Sea (first semester): Tales of Ryukyu and Japanese pirates” to be held from 9/22 to 11/19.
As for the group called “Japanese feudal,” which threatened security along the coast of mainland China from the latter half of the 14th century to the first half of the 15th century and the 16th century, the former is now called “early Japanese feudal,” and the latter is called “late Japanese feudal.” In the latter half of the 14th century, China's Ming dynasty built castles along the coast of the continent to crack down on Japanese pirates, and in the 16th century, settlements along the coast of mainland China set up castle walls to prevent acts of looting from Japanese pirates. Also, historic sites that fought against Japanese pirates can still be seen in various places today, such as battery bases for coastal defense being built in the Ryukyu Kingdom during this period. This time, I will introduce some of them and get closer to the appearance of Japanese pirates.
