For Okinawa, awamori is an alcoholic beverage that is indispensable not only for fun, but also for celebrations. Therefore, vessels related to awamori are also made in various shapes depending on the situation in which they are used. The sake bottle “caracara” for awamori with a spout for evening drinks, etc., a “Dachibin (Okinawan style Izakaya pub) (dachibin)” curved to follow the body for going out, the gourd-shaped “chishibin (yushibin)” used during celebrations, and the “chibugowa,” which is smaller than a sake cup for drinking high-intensity awamori, etc. were all made as awamori vessels. Awamori and its vessel, Yachimun, have taken root along with the lives of Okinawans since ancient times.

This time, as a joint project between Ikutouen, Iguchi Kobo, and Kobo Tanike, each workshop will make vessels suitable for awamori. Focusing on awamori and sake utensils that have been loved for a long time in Okinawa, we will introduce the history and culture surrounding them from Yachimun made according to their respective roots and environments. There are many sake vessels that have been devised to be easy to use even today, while retaining traditional techniques, so it's fun to choose your favorite sake set according to how you drink. I want to use it as an opportunity to learn about the culture of sake vessels unique to Okinawa, which have been popular as vessels for awamori.
