The diverse and rich arts and culture are the assets of Naha city's world-class citizens. As the roles required for culture and art change with the times, how can we cultivate, express, and position “Naha culture and art” in society in the future? While culture and art “have important significance as forming a heart-rich society where people understand and respect each other and accept diversity” (Naha City Culture and Art Basic Ordinance), there is no shortage of issues, such as lack of successors and environmental improvements for artists and viewers. Based on the history of the location of the former Kumoji Elementary School, Naha is continuing the “Nahato Dialogue” business so that the theater becomes a place for citizens to dialogue and learn from each other.

Naha Cultural Arts Theater Nahato opened in Kumoji, Naha City in October 2021. It aims to be a place where theaters and communities, and artists, audiences, and participants discuss, interact, and learn from each other. The first Nahato Dialogue held last year with the mayor of Naha, “What is culture and art?” Continuing, we will continue to create places for dialogue with Naha this year as well.
