“Gagaku” is a performing art born from the Japanese imperial court. “Ryukyu dance” is an entertainment born from the Ryukyu dynasty that once existed. Gagaku and Ryukyu dance are performing arts living today, where they were born in different historical backgrounds and places, but not only are they succession activities for traditional programs, new works have been created, and they continue to be performed both domestically and internationally. This project is an unprecedented attempt not only to perform classical representative performances of gagaku and Ryukyu dance as a “festival of court music - an encounter between gagaku and Ryukyu performing arts”, but also an up-and-coming composer boldly arranging contemporary gagaku works, fusing them with Ryukyu dance, and performing them as one work. No one can imagine what kind of chemical reaction will occur and how it will end.
