TAKEUCHI Ichiro
Maybe it's the “50th performance” that should be commemorated. This is the “10th time” since it began to be done at Kinokuniya Hall. I don't have a lot of feelings, but milestones don't suit our theater. Nonetheless, there is no real feeling that they are taking root, but it seems that someday they are no longer just floating on the surface of the river.
“War Results Aguiyah” is a group of bandits that trades goods stolen from US military bases throughout Asia after World War II. Around 2003, I noticed the existence of War Results Agiya, and started interviewing it, and performed it as “The Divine Eagle Will Not Die” (Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre) in 2005. As a work that decorates the tail of the “Burn Traces Gambler Series”.
In 2009, it was revised to “OKINAWA 1947,” and gave it a scale called “Okinawa between Japan and the United States.” I was beginning to think that theater had the function of mirrors reflecting the times. For the first time, it has grown into a work suitable for performing at Kinokuniya Hall.
In 2015, the title “The Fire of Okinawa” was explained, and at this time, I dared to make the hall smaller (Ikebukuro “Box in Box”) and focused on increasing the density of theater.
Incidentally, in 2007, a non-fiction film called Okuno Shuji's “Natsuko” (Bungeishunju), which followed the female master of War Results Agiya, came out. I read it carefully, but if I know the truth, such as bereaved families and friends, there are many people who have a slight touch, and even if I wanted to step in, I could not step in is probably the author's true intention. It's a world where it's hard to get close to facts.
I want to penetrate fiction as a whole, with facts. I want you to touch the dynamism of Uchinanchu, which was openworked in fiction. The joy and sorrow of people's lives are there. There is also a miracle that we are alive now.
