Okinawa Prefecture used to flourish its own culture as the Ryukyu Kingdom. Taking advantage of the subtropical climate, glittering lacquerware and colorful textiles were produced under the control of Wangfu. It is also said that the country was filled with treasures from countries brought about by ocean trade. However, due to the wave of modernization and the fierce ground warfare during World War II, much of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the time was lost. At the same time, techniques such as the heart and technology of Ryukyu, which have been carefully handed down from generation to generation, were also cut off.
In order to revive the beautiful cultural assets of the Ryukyu Kingdom to the present day, craftsmen and researchers collaborated to elucidate lost tricks across eight fields (painting, woodcarving, stone carving, lacquerware, textile, ceramics, metalwork, and Sanshin (Three-string guitar)). The process of imitation restoration (research and research on the original materials, faithfully restoring the original appearance, and making new ones) was very difficult, but as a result of the cooperation of craftsmen and researchers, Various discoveries were obtained. In this exhibition, we will mainly exhibit these imitation restored products and introduce their production process.
