Profile

Born in Shinkawa, Ishigaki City, Yaeyama-gun, Okinawa Prefecture. He performed a variety of shimauta handed down in the Yaeyama region, and established himself as the leading Yaeyama folk song. There are many people who sympathize with the attitude of singing the Shimauta (Okinawan music) uta with love. In 1999, he was designated as the holder of Okinawa Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property (Yaeyama old folk music). In 2011, he became president of the Ryukyu Folk Song Music Association. He also performed in many concerts in and outside the prefecture and overseas, performed in Central, East, Northern Europe, the United States, and Central America, and in 1996 he toured five countries in Southwest Africa. Southeast Asian countries in 1998. In 1999, four countries in the Pacific Rim, and in 2011, he realized a touring concert to four countries in South America and continues his activities around the world. He is also actively engaged in co-starring activities with folk musicians from around the world, jazz/rock musicians, etc. In addition, we have branches of Yaeyama Folk Song Classroom nationwide, and we also focus on spreading and cultivating Okinawan Yaeyama folk music. He is currently the widest range of musicians in Okinawa.
