Since its formation in 1998, 88Balaz has enthralled and captivated local and foreign audiences living in Taiwan. Singer Ah-chang skillfully uses worn-out acoustics, and usually draws listeners into his songs that unravel dreams and fables while drinking Taiwanese canned beer little by little. When Diya's stylish guitar solo and Guan Ling's punky bass are added, 88 Balaz becomes a blues-style garage band with just the right amount of intensity of local taike, but they continue to focus on 88 Balaz's taste. They won the Ho-Hai-Yan Indie Music Awards, the biggest rock band contest in Taiwan, but it was about 8 years after winning the award that 88 Balaz's first album “The 44 Stone Lions” was released by Taiwan Colors Music 044. However, tracks up until now, including “The Clock People,” which were influenced by Stooges, have been included in TCM collections such as the “2001 Independent Compilation” and the “2001 Ho-Hai-Yan Music Awards.”
88 Balaz draws large crowds at festivals and concert houses alike.
In early 2009, they also performed in Japan and Beijing, and performed at many famous concert houses.
Regarding 88 Balaz, Mr. Wade, the founder of the Spring Scream Music Festival, said, “They are totally rocked!!! (They're insanely cool!!!)” I'm commenting.
88 Balaz is a Taiwanese pronunciation meaning the type of guava.
