Profile
A Shimauta (Okinawan music) unit composed of Kazunari Gibo (Uta Sansen/guitar) from Ishigaki and Megumi Aragaki (Uta Sansen/taiko) from Naha. At the Okinawa Prefectural University of Art, they studied classical music, which is a traditional Okinawan performing art, and began live activities in 2005 so that people can feel close to Okinawan music while performing on stage, and have been active under the unit name “Jinjin” since 2008. The Ishigaki kid “Gibokazuya” was born in Akashi, which is surrounded by nature. The free sensibility that grew up carefree has created original songs with rich harmonies. It was selected for the 2011 Marlboro Ignite project, and the sound of Sanshin resonates with the NY Blue Note. The Naha kid “Arakaki Megumi” wakes up to Okinawan music at her feet after spending a free time traveling from Hokkaido Prefecture to Tibet. Both were winners of the Grand Prix in Ryukyuan classical music. Depending on the live song, they perform a combination of “Sanshin (Three-string guitar)” and “taiko,” or by changing instruments to “Sanshin (Three-string guitar)” & “guitar or flute or sanpan.”
