In the spring of 2000, the Ryukyu Symphony Orchestra Establishment Preparatory Committee was established. He welcomed international conductor Naoto Otomo as a music advisor, and held the “Ryukyu Symphony Orchestra Establishment Concert” at the Okinawa Convention Center in 2001/3.

The members of the orchestra are composed of musicians active in Okinawa. In addition to regular concerts twice a year, music appreciation parties at elementary, middle, and high schools, the 3rd and 4th World Uchinanchu Conventions, the 30th and 40th anniversary of the return to mainland Okinawa, and the 46th Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) General Meeting, etc., the government There are also many performances from Okinawa prefecture.

In addition, in order to make people enjoy the orchestra more closely, we started “concerts from 0-year-olds” and “reading aloud Okinawan folktale picture books spun by an orchestra” in 2015. Since 2016, Naoto Otomo has been welcomed as the music director, and has been working with the aim of “a symphony orchestra that values interaction with the audience more than ever before, is familiar and loved by the citizens of the prefecture, and becomes the face of Okinawa prefecture with a rich international character.”
