Modern Korean culture continues to change rapidly. Among them, popular music and literary trends called “K-pop” and “K-literature” symbolize the dynamism of Korean expressive culture responding to modern society. Just as BTS is attracting worldwide attention, K-pop has become a central presence in the global music market. Also, in literature, the fact that Han Gan won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature is fresh in my memory. The global popularity of modern Korean culture shows that Korean music and literature have transcended national borders and developed into something that gains global sympathy.

In this special lecture, two experts who are familiar with the historical background of modern Korean popular music and literature will be invited, and lectures and talk sessions will be held. Kim Sung-min is an expert on Japanese and Korean popular music history, and Kimufuna is active as a translator of contemporary Korean literature, starting with Han Gang. Through lectures and talk sessions between the two, we will think about what we can learn from the dynamic development of contemporary Korean culture.
