Okinawa Prefecture is implementing various initiatives aimed at registering Okinawa karate as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. From Reiwa 4 (2022) to Reiwa 6 (2024), research on karate (martial arts physical expression), including bojutsu, which is rooted in local life, was conducted and compiled into a report. This year, we will focus on bojutsu, which is rooted in Okinawan life, and introduce the diverse spread of Okinawa karate and its close relationships with local communities.
