Every year, October 30th is “World Uchinanchu Day.” This year marks the 125th anniversary of Okinawan immigrants arriving in Hawaii. With immigration as an opportunity, Okinawan citizens went to countries all over the world in search of a new land. Currently, the Town History Editorial Office is proceeding with investigations on the theme of “immigrants and immigrants” in Yaese Town, and in Reiwa 5 (2023), a field survey was conducted in Hawaii, and we were able to interact with many people with roots in Yaese Town. In this panel exhibition, some field survey records will be exhibited along with the history of immigrants centered on Hawaiian immigrants.
On 11/1 (Sat), the documentary film “Living in Hawaii,” which was produced at the 65th anniversary of Hawaiian immigration, will be screened at the Yaese Town Central Community Center, and the trajectory of immigrants who have walked through a history of hardship will be introduced. A panel exhibition on migrant immigrants will also be held at the same time.
