The special exhibition “80 Years After the War: Battle of Okinawa x University of the Ryukyus University” held at the Ryukyu University Library in June left the university and was held in Nanjo City and Nakagusuku Village. 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa at the end of the Asia-Pacific War. In this special exhibition, in collaboration with faculty members at the University of the Ryukyus, we will think about “the future of memory succession of the Battle of Okinawa” through research and education activities surrounding the Battle of Okinawa being carried out at our university and introducing materials related to the Battle of Okinawa held by the attached library. 10 copies of photographs taken from the air by the US military during the war, held by Jeju University in South Korea, will also be exhibited.

I will explain the circumstances and outline of obtaining aerial photographs from Jeju University in South Korea, and take a close look at the aerial photographs of Namseong City on display while zooming in on a large monitor.
