On Ishigaki Island, during the Kyubon (Bon festival on lunar calendar) festival (9/4 to 6, 2025), the traditional event “angama” is held where “Ushmai (Okina)” and “Nmi (),” who are messengers from another world, wear hanazome costumes and visit their descendants' houses and perform unique questions, answers, and dances. At this event, you can experience the traditional culture “angama,” which is important to the people of Yaeyama. Powerful songs, Sanshin (Three-string guitar), and dances by Oishi Sadaharu (singer from Ishigaki Island Island/Ohama) and the Ohama Local youth club are performed, and under a sky full of stars, you can enjoy a special night where traditional culture and nature of Yaeyama are fused.
