Indigo Dyeing Studio Ajin
Ajin grows indigo from seedlings with her own hands, makes dyes, and dyes cloth. Because of the amount of labor involved in cultivation, he says, “I'm more like a farmer than a dyer.” Ajin's field and workshop are located in a deep forest on the Motobu Peninsula in the northern part of Okinawa Island, blessed with abundant rainwater and suitable for growing indigo. The color of indigo dyeing also changes depending on the climate and temperature of the day, and the material being dyed. Ryukyu indigo dyeing, which is unique in its beauty and texture, is exhibited and sold.
