Now, 80 years after the war, this is a special event to learn about the connection between Okinawan immigrants and the war through movies. Through films set in the three regions of North America, South America, and Asia, we learn how people who immigrated from Okinawa experienced during the war, and about post-war reconstruction support and the connection with Okinawa.
The movie “Mango and Brown Sugar”
A documentary film looking at the present day of people who have experienced war. Saipan, Tinian... After World War I, many Japanese people crossed over to the Nanyang Archipelago and formed a sugar kingdom with the local Chamorro people. Listen to the voices of returnees who talk about their nostalgic hometown and the tragedy of Tamagurashi.
