Before the war, the Okinawa Prefecture Railway recorded 3.28 million passengers getting on and off per year, and was also responsible for cargo transportation centered on the sugar industry, and supported the flow of people and logistics in the south-central part of Okinawa Island as a “prefectural” railway. How was that railway incorporated into the wartime system and then destroyed? Also, why was reconstruction not possible after the war, and on the other hand, why is the construction of railway tracks still being discussed today? A special exhibition to think about such questions through photographs and war experiences from that time.
