Yaeyama is also a star island where you can see 84 constellations out of 88 constellations, and all 21 brightly shining 1st magnitude stars. However, there are many stars in the night sky, and there are many people who don't really understand them. Once you know the stars and constellations, it's fun to look up at the night sky. In classrooms held every season, you collect star fragments and become a “Pushinchu (star person)” detailed in the starry sky. In the spring edition, we will introduce seven first magnitude stars, including the Southern Cross and Pai Gabushi (two 1st magnitude stars in the constellation Centaurus) which can only be seen in Okinawa. You can also experience a starry sky explanation at the planetarium.
