In recent years, the number of green sea turtles, which are supposed to be an endangered species, has increased rapidly, and cases where tropical and subtropical seaweed beds decline due to excessive feeding have been reported all over the world. In Japan, seagrass beds in the Nansei Islands, starting with Kume Island, have been devastated, and urgent action is needed.
In this symposium, we will discuss “what Kume Island can do for the coexistence of both” by sharing the latest research results on green sea turtles and seaweed beds on Kume Island with Kume Island townspeople and stakeholders.
