Based on Tawaraya Sotatsu, who was active in the first half of the 17th century, one of the methods of expression that most characterizes the paintings of the “Rinpa School (Rinpa)”, which was born by many painters such as Ogata Korin and Sakai Hoichi inheriting that style, is “tarashi-kari.” By using tarring, it is possible to express natural three-dimensional effects and shadows in a fresh way by bleeding ink or paint. After appreciating Rinpa works that use tarashi-kuri with images, you will actually experience the technique of “tarashi-kuri” using ink and paint.
