A final screening of the original anime created by director Shirato Takeshi, who has worked on numerous animations such as “Space Battleship Yamato” and “Lupin the Third,” and villagers of Tokashiki Island for over 50 years. Director Shirato Takeshi and the villagers of Tokashiki Island have been producing the original anime “Grandma Ushi and the Whale,” based on the island's folktale “The Cow Became a Whale.” Under the director's guidance, the villagers decided the synopsis, drew pictures, and in January 2025, the villagers also did dubbing. Dubbing was performed in standard language and Uchina (Okinawan dialect), with English subtitles for standard language and Japanese subtitles for Uchina. 98-year-old Aragaki Kiyo is in charge of the voice of Grandma Ushi, who plays the leading role. This is the first anime created by villagers in Japan.
