Symposium commemorating the 30th anniversary of the opening of Meio University and the 15th anniversary of the incorporation of a public university. We will reconsider the historical significance of the Perry Fleet's visit to Ryukyu, examine “historical facts” and “stories” from multiple angles, and consider together how historical perceptions shape society and how historical science should contribute to future peace-building. We are living in a new era of not only “learning from history,” but also “thinking about history.” Based on “peace, freedom, and progress,” which is the founding spirit of Meio University, we will question historical facts and explore the path to future peace together.
