A performance commemorating the 100th anniversary of Puccini's death and the 120th anniversary of the premiere of “Madame Butterfly.”
Nagasaki in the early Meiji period. Cho-san, the daughter of a fallen warrior family, became a geisha at age 15. There, she is first seen by Pinkerton, an American naval officer and soldier, and is welcomed as a local wife. A few months later, Pinkerton returned to his home country. Cho-san believes that it is a marriage based on true love, so she doesn't doubt it, and she just keeps waiting for his return. And three years later, what is the harsh truth that awaits Butterfly...
The opera progresses as a memoir of “Suzuki,” and the true story of Butterfly hits the audience's heart. It premiered in 2007, and won the “Japan Illuminators Association Stage Division Encouragement Award” for the 2022 Tokyo performance at the Asakusa Public Hall (lighting: Okinawa stage). This time, we will conclude the last performance in Okinawa with a new production using projection mapping.
