“Biwako Pearls,” which have unique shapes and colors, spend 3 years at Lake Biwa until shellfish grow, and 3 years until pearls are formed. At one point, it became difficult for “pond butterfly clams,” which are mollusks, to grow due to environmental issues such as water quality, etc., and although there were close to 100 aquaculture companies at its peak, it is now about 1/10. Currently, aquaculture technology has also developed, and there are people like Sugiyama Tomoko, the owner of the specialty store “Jimbo Pearl Store,” which specializes in “Biwako Pearl,” and continue to disseminate appeal while capturing the feelings of aquaculture traders. Through accessories made by “Jimbo Pearl Store,” I will introduce the beauty created by nature nurtured by Lake Biwa and the people involved in “Biwako Pearls” as things surrounding Biwako Pearls.
