The Okinawa Peace Prize honors individuals and organizations that have contributed to the construction and maintenance of peace in the Asia-Pacific region, which are closely geographically and historically related to Okinawa, with the aim of creating a new international peace from the viewpoint of Okinawa, and is held once every two years.
Prior to the award ceremony on 10/28, Kimura Mariko, former Palestinian business representative of the “Japan International Volunteer Center,” which is an organization that won the 9th Okinawa Peace Prize, and Asaka Futenma, director of the “Himeyuri Peace Museum,” which is the 11th Okinawa Peace Prize winning organization, will be invited to give keynote speeches and talk sessions. In addition, panel discussions will also be held with people working on familiar social contribution activities related to peace in the prefecture (3rd Churauchina Grassroots Peace Contribution Award winners).
