At the end of World War II, from March to June 1945, in Okinawa, where the only ground battle between Japan and the United States took place within Japan, about 150,000 people, which is one-quarter of the prefecture's population, were killed. 222 female students, later called “Himeyuri students,” were mobilized by nursing personnel at the Army Hospital, and 123 people aged 15 to 19 took their lives. This reading was transcribed based on notes written by those who survived. There are still wars going on around the world. This reading is a story that contains prayers for peace of female students scattered across the battlefield who swore in their hearts that they would never repeat wars again.
