As a common presence in Okinawa, okayado kari doesn't get much attention locally. However, due to the strangeness of living on land even though it is a hermit crab, it has long attracted the interest of many people, such as Kumagusu Minakata and Kunio Yanagita. There is also a legend in Okinawa that the giant hermit crab is an ancestor of humans. A special exhibition introducing octopus from the viewpoints of ecology, history, and folklore. Five species of living organisms from Okinawa Island will also be exhibited.
