A stage work written by Takuya Kaneshima, a young playwright living in Okinawa, and directed by Maiko Tanaka, who is originally from Okinawa. Inspired by the non-fiction “Reversal” (written by Chihiro Isa, published by Shinchosha/Iwanami Shoten) written based on the 1964 American soldier killing incident that occurred in Okinawa under American occupation, interviews with materials from that time, young people living in Tokyo living in the present day, experts on base issues, people living in the same base town, Yokosuka, etc., and Kaneshima wrote it up over a period of 1 year while repeatedly refining it with Tanaka. As Okinawa's past, present, and future intersect, this story directly examines the state of the nation of Okinawa and Japan, which encompasses complexity.

At the time of its premiere in 2022, this work, which attracted attention, such as receiving the 30th Yomiuri Drama Awards Excellent Picture Award, being nominated for the 26th Tsuruya Nanboku Drama Award, and being selected as a finalist for the 67th Kishida Kuniji Drama Award, will be performed again in Kanagawa, Kyoto, Fukuoka, and Okinawa from 2024/5 to 6.

Synopsis: Magazine reporter Asano decides to investigate the American soldier killing incident that occurred 60 years ago in Okinawa, but he actually learns that the suspect was his wife's grandfather, Sakumoto. While proceeding with the investigation and writing the article, Asano was gradually brought into an inexplicable situation where the past and present of Okinawa became completely blurry, and he himself was swallowed up by the “rules” nurtured by “The Story of Okinawa”...
