“Piling” represents Ryukyu lacquerware and is known as a unique technique. Duikinmochi is a technique in which a material called duikinmochi made by mixing lacquer baked with pigment is thinly stretched, cut in the shape of a pattern, and attached to the surface of lacquerware. In this permanent exhibition, we will trace changes in Ryukyu duikin techniques and patterns through works. They will also expand their perspective to modern duikin, and introduce master craftsmen who have mastered techniques in private workshops, works by lacquer artists who make full use of duikin techniques, and Duikin works with novel designs by students and graduates of Okinawa Prefectural University of Art who will lead the next generation.
