This documentary tells the history of Japanese women who moved to Hawaii and how Japanese women born there lived. Valuable testimonies from many second-generation Japanese people living in Hawaii are collected, and the state of parents' immigration, the mother's role in the home, feelings, etc. are clarified.
From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, about 20,000 Japanese women went to Hawaii for marriage as “photo brides.” What were their roles at work and home, and what were their feelings and actions as mothers when their son went to war as an American soldier? Also, second-generation women who grew up watching the backs of such mothers also went through a difficult journey, working in sugarcane fields from an early age and becoming maids in their teens. Now that social advancement has progressed, there is an increase in the number of Japanese women active in politics, education, etc., but through the values of Japanese women who contributed and served Hawaiian society, they question what a true Japanese person is.
