This work is based on the documentary film “Harago Niraikanaihe - Higa Yasuo's Soul” (2001) produced by film director Junichiro Oshige. The author has compiled many photographs and memorandums into a booklet, incorporating his experience of being involved in Kudaka Island as an assistant director to director Oshige and his knowledge of researching the rituals and rituals of the islands of the Ryukyu Islands.
What is in the religious view of Kudakajima is not a paternal principle like in modern civilization, but a “cultural archetype” based on the maternal principle that governs life. Oshige passed away in 2015, but it is said that “death” was no longer a pain when he realized Kudakajima's view of passing away. Just before he died, he realized that “this island is the only place where Niraikanai is.” He talks with Oshita Daien, the author of “I'm Not Afraid to Die,” about living on islands and what people die originally.
